Turkey Aiding Islamist Jihadis and Advocating Islamist Unity - TR2015/0507001

Turkey is facilitating the actualization of Islamist's objectives in Syria. The Turkish Government is working alongside KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) to aid Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham Salafist rebel groups.

Turkey is also championing for Islamist unity in Syria in order to merge and consolidate the different and distinct armed Islamist groups into a unified Islamist front that can effectively defeat SAA and its allies across Northern Syria.
KSA is wary of the gains made by al-Qaeda and ISIS in Syria; and has partnered with Turkey to arm and provision aid to vetted Islamist factions not affiliated to either al-Qaeda or ISIS. Meanwhile, Ahrar al-Sham is co-opting Faylaq al-Sham into the Islamist front.
Turkey has been advocating for the merger of Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar al-sham into a single entity that will field a combined strength of between 40,000 to 70,000 armed combatants.

On the other hand, the stealth infiltration by ISIS into rebel-controlled areas and subsequent subversion of the rebels betrays its expansionist agenda which nonetheless risks renewing sectarian and ideological rifts within the rebel ranks. Turkey has been attempting to forestall rebel fallouts instigated by ISIS.
