Kenya: KDF Prevails Contact with al-Shabaab - KE2015/0507001

Al-Shabaab terrorists ambushed a KDF (Kenya Defence Forces) convoy in the morning hours of 6th May 2015. The ambush occurred at a Somalia village located near the Kenyan border town of Liboi. The ambush was repelled and the terrorists dispersed. Casualty figures are presently unavailable.

KDF air assets bombed the area between Liboi town and Somalia’s Dhobley town as it pursued the terrorists, as well as pacified the area from terror elements.
Al-Shabaab has been using its bases in Gedo region to launch terror attacks against Kenyan targets. Gedo has not been effectively pacified by KDF, SNA (Somalia National Army), AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) and allied troops; and al-Shabaab still operates training camps in the area.
Kenya is presently combating an Islamist terror campaign - both within the nation and across the border in Somalia - as national socio-political life is inundated by political bickering, political intrigues, corruption, chronic incompetence and political cronyism; all of which have hampered effective national counter-terrorism operations.
